Avondale’s Grace Kim Shines on Day 1

In today’s opening round of the Avondale Amateur, Grace Kim compiled an impressive seven birdies on her way to 66, giving her a one shot lead over Cassie Porter from the Peregian Golf Club.  Japanese player Tsubasu Kajitani sits third after the first round, have shot a four-under 68.

Current Avondale Club Champion Sharon Thompson started her tournament with a four-over-par 76.

Meantime, Lewis Hoath from Royal Pines and Harry Bolton from NSW Golf Club lead the men’s field after both shooting 6-under-par rounds of 65.  Nineteen year old Hoath started from the 10th hole and was 3-under-par after five holes having lipped out for an eagle on the par five 14th.  Hoath said he was pleasantly surprised with his ball striking on Day 1. “I drove the ball really well all day, I was particularly pleased with my accuracy off the tee” said Hoath.

Bolton had two eagles today on the 7th and 9th holes.  A group of players are a shot back at 5-under, including Pymble’s James Conran, Harrison Crowe of St Michael’s Golf Club and Nathan Barbieri from Monash. Chris Fan and William Moody were the best of the locals each shooting 72.
