Avondale’s Grace Kim Shines on Day 1

In today’s opening round of the Avondale Amateur, Grace Kim compiled an impressive seven birdies on her way to 66, giving her a one shot lead over Cassie Porter from the Peregian Golf Club.  Japanese player Tsubasu Kajitani sits third after the first round, have shot a four-under 68.

Current Avondale Club Champion Sharon Thompson started her tournament with a four-over-par 76.

Meantime, Lewis Hoath from Royal Pines and Harry Bolton from NSW Golf Club lead the men’s field after both shooting 6-under-par rounds of 65.  Nineteen year old Hoath started from the 10^th hole and was 3-under-par after five holes having lipped out for an eagle on the par five 14^th.  Hoath said he was pleasantly surprised with his ball striking on Day 1. “I drove the ball really well all day, I was particularly pleased with my accuracy off the tee” said Hoath.

Bolton had two eagles today on the 7^th and 9^th holes.  A group of players are a shot back at 5-under, including Pymble’s James Conran, Harrison Crowe of St Michael’s Golf Club and Nathan Barbieri from Monash. Chris Fan and William Moody were the best of the locals each shooting 72.
