New course record during Round 3 of the Avondale Amateur
Japanese golfer Taichei Kimura has fired an eight-under-par 63 to set a new course record at Avondale. The Japanese amateur champion had six birdies and an eagle in a blistering round of golf. He sits in 16th place at five-under-par for the tournament.
Monash player Nathan Barbieri had a three-under-par 68 and now shares the lead at 11-under with Englishman Ben Schmidt. Barbieri said, “I made a disappointing bogie on the third but bounced back quickly by birdieing the fourth and I was pleased with my game from that point in.”
Six players sit one shot back at 10-under-par including Joseph Owen from Lake Karrinyup who had seven birdies in his 64 today.
Local player Chris Fan had five birdies on the front nine on his way to 67 which elevated him up the leader board to be placed in a tie for 17th.
Avondale’s Grace Kim had a mixed day with three early bogies unsettling her. Grace carded four birdies on the way home to finish with a 71, giving her a three shot lead at nine-under-par.
South Korean Minju Kim backed up yesterday’s 65 with a two-under-par 70. Fiona Xu and Tsubasa Kajitani are also at six-under-par.
Day four promises to be enthralling with so many players in both the men’s and women’s in contention.
