About the Avondale Amateur
The Avondale Medal and Bowl are Golf Australia Order of Merit, Golf NSW Order of Merit and R&A World Amateur Ranking Events, with men and women of any age applicable to play over 72-holes in a stroke play format. The Avondale Bowl also forms part of the Karrie Webb Series.
As one of the top four Amateur events staged in Australia, The Avondale Amateur immediately follows the Australian Amateur Championship and the NSW Amateur Championship.
The Amateur is played over four days with the field being cut to the top 60 plus ties for Men and 24 plus ties for Women after the second round as the competition intensifies from Thursday morning.
Many of the players in the field will turn professional within a few years. Blake Windred, the 2018 and 2019 Avondale Medal Champion recently turned pro and finished tied 16th in the 2019 Australian Open. Avondale local, Harrison Endycott, the 2015 and 2016 champion, has played on the Latino American PGA tour for the past 2 years and will compete on the Korn Ferry tour in the US in 2020.
The Avondale Bowl became an elite level event in 2017 when it became part of The Avondale Amateur. The 2017 champion, Korean Ga Young Lee, shot an amazing 28 under par, including a course record of 11 under, that will stand for a long time. 2018 champion Suzuka Yamaguchi from Japan now plays on the LPGA tour. The 2019 champion Kum Kang Park, also from Korea, confirms the strength of women’s golf in the region.
