Avondale Amateur 2022 Round 1 Wrap
It’s a 3-way tie at the top of the leaderboard in both the Avondale Medal and the Avondale Bowl after Round One.
In the Avondale Medal, Jayden Ford from Judgeford Golf Club in New Zealand opened with a 3 under par 68, and is joined at the top by Roseville’s Eric Zhou and reigning NSW Amateur Champion, Andrew Richards (Pennant Hills).
Ford, teeing off early from the 10th tee, opened his round with a 1 over par front nine, which included just 1 par and 4 birdies. With birdies on holes 1, 5, 7, and 9, Ford came home with a 4 under par 32 to take the Clubhouse lead. Andrew Richards got off to a hot start and was 5 under through 11 holes, but a double bogey at 16 and a bogey at 18 saw him drop back to 3 under par. Zhou, also a member at Avondale, posted 5 birdies in his opening round to also take a share of the lead.
Scoring was slightly more difficult in the Avondale Bowl, with Jeneath Wong (Metropolitan), Brielle Mapanao (The Australian) and Caitlin Peirce (Royal Adelaide) all sitting in a tie for 1st place after each posting a 1 under par, 71. Wong, the recently crowned Australian Master of the Amateurs Champion, opened with four birdies in her first nine holes, and finished her round with nine pars in a row.
Round Two commences from 6.45am on Wednesday, 19 January.
